W Barecelona! Summer Break 2016

W Barcelona June 2016 (Placa De La Rosa Dels Vents)

Short breaks and trips away from the usual routine is so important. It gives you that well earned rest that you so desire and time to reflect on life..

I did just that with my beautiful folks and chose the fabulous W in Barcelona, I had read some amazing blog reviews on this particular hotel and realised this could give us the best of both worlds the beach at your door step and the city just 10 mins away. Did we get this! absolutely, it was perfect weather! the hotel had a buzz that was brilliant for people watching. The pool deck stole my heart and we spent many hours watching the sea the sun and reading on these fabulous canopy beds!

The flight from LHR to Barcelona only takes around 2 hours, so not far to get that good old Vitamin D that we all so need. It has history, beautiful beaches amazing Architecture and just a great cosmopolitan buzz about it.

Barcelona certainly has something for everyone! if you just want to meander the day then W Barcelona is perfect, you can enjoy half the day at the property and the rest can be spent walking alongside the promenade, walking into the local town Playa Del Mar which has shops, restaurants, cafes, open markets and live Music! its just so surreal and beautiful. W Barcelona! has 26 floors, the upper most floor has a bar with a view that is to die for. On the ground level each pool has superb decking area where there were four poster canopy style beds to relax in, my evenings were spent people watching reading and just taking picture after picture|! you just have to right with a view like that!

Placa Del Cataluyna 10 minutes from W Barcelona (Plaça de la Rosa dels Vents), is the main square in the city and very much like the Regents Street or Oxford Street of London. Designer shops, plush cafes, people chilling with Sangria and Tapas and enjoying the weather and good company! We did a lot of the circling things in a map on foot in search of things! So we managed to find 2 of the very famous Antoni Goudi buildings in the heart of Placa Del  Cataluyna, amazing Architect, Casa Batllo is a popular building gets a lot of tourist surrounding it the history behind it is fascinating do go ahead and read about it. Its now open to the public as a museum worth checking out. Antoni Goudis Architect style was very much coloured mosaics, pillars skulls and bones and different ceramics to make the buildings unusual.

Park Guell is a must see I would suggest if you are looking to go inside then book ahead from the hotel or then online the queues during this peak season were insane. Its mesmerising the whole thing and to think it originally was suggested that this would have been an elite set of apartments for the aristocratic, but that idea didn't work and Antoni Goudi ended up completing and living there himself I think one other family purchased one of the flats and still have it in their family to date. For the purposes of the public they have opened up the Antoni Goudi's house for people to see his architecture abilities and how he lived it is very impressive tall ceilings, long cathedral style windows, unusual furniture all in a rather grande way!

When I'm in Barcelona I love to indulge in their Fresh Garlic Bread either with Olives or sun-blushed tomatoes,  Feta Salads and Paellea, its fresh full of simple flavours and just simply mouth watering! Near our hotel the promenade had lots of lovely restaurants that served freshly cooked fish and paella so when in that area do check out the shops running alongside the sea.

This short but sweet trip has left so many beautiful memories in my heart, I would recommend this city to everyone its a gem of a place, something for all and not to mention the twelve hours of sunshine that is guaranteed.
